Fishing

Please note there is a vehicle entrance fee at Burchfield Park, Hawk Island, and Lake Lansing Park South.  Fishing license are required for anglers 17 years and older, see below for park requirements.  Click HERE for other parks that offer water areas open to public fishing.

Baldwin Park

Fishing Licenses are REQUIRED.  A basic or "Restricted License" is required at Baldwin Park for anglers 17 years and older (under 17 - no license required) and can be purchased online at www.takemefishing.org/fishing/license or at a hardware store, or Meijer store.  A State of Michigan License is required and all regulations apply. 

Bunker Road Landing

Fishing Licenses are REQUIRED.  A basic or "Restricted License" is required on the Grand River for anglers 17 years and older (under 17 - no license required) and can be purchased online at www.takemefishing.org/fishing/license or at a hardware store, or Meijer store.  A State of Michigan License is required and all regulations apply.

Burchfield Park

Fishing Licenses are REQUIRED.  An all-species fishing license is required at Burchfield Park for anglers 17 years and older (under 17 - no license required) and can be purchased online at www.takemefishing.org/fishing/license or at a hardware store, or Meijer store.  A State of Michigan License is required and all regulations apply. 

At Burchfield Park 3-4,000 Rainbow Trout are stocked several times during the year in the late spring and early summer.  There is NO Catch and Release in the Burchfield fishing pond; you MUST take what you catch.  The pond is open spring, summer, and fall to the taking of trout with an 8" minimum size limit and a 3 fish daily possession limit, of which no more than 3 can be 15" or larger.  Because the pond is spring fed it is closed during the winter.

Tackle Loaner Program:  Burchfield Park offers fishing tackle for children and adults accompanying children, free of charge.  Equipment was made available by the Michigan Department Natural Resources. A boardwalk surrounds the pond and provide access to accessible fishing docks.

Hawk Island Park

Fishing Licenses are REQUIRED.  A basic or "Restricted License" is required at Hawk Island for anglers 17 years and older (under 17 - no license required) and can be purchased online at www.takemefishing.org/fishing/license or at a hardware store, or Meijer store.  A State of Michigan License is required and all regulations apply. 

The lake at Hawk Island was planted with Hybrid Bluegill from 2002 to 2004.  Channel Catfish, Perch, and Large Mouth Bass were planted between the years of 2005 and 2009.  Removal of bass from this lake is prohibited.  ALL BASS MUST BE RELEASED.  Any person with bass in their possession will be removed from the park immediately and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. 

Ice fishing is permitted at Hawk Island.  Be sure to wait to walk out on the ice until there is at least 4 inches of clear, solid ice, otherwise use AT YOUR OWN RISK.  The Parks Department does not check or monitor ice thickness.  Fishermen must be off the ice when the park closes.

A boardwalk surrounds the lake at Hawk Island and provide access to accessible fishing docks on the lake.  Visitors can bring in their own water craft.  Motors are not allowed with the exception of non-gas trolling motors.  There is no boat ramp.  Boats must be carried from the parking lot to the water.  Boats must stay off the island.

Lake Lansing Boat Launch

General fishing is allowed at the Lake Lansing Boat Launch.  Fishermen may fish from the shore on either side of the main dock.  Fees collected are for launching a watercraft.  Due to limited parking, only vehicles with an attached watercraft are allowed to utilize the boat launch on weekends and holidays, May to Mid-September (single vehicles are not allowed).  The boat launch welcomes all users Monday - Friday (excluding Holidays) during the summer months.

The lake has Bass, Panfish, and Catfish (no Salmon or Trout).  Fishing is allowed year round on Lake Lansing and is not monitored by the Parks Department.  In addition, ice thickness in the winter is not monitored by Park staff.  Please note, vehicles are NOT allowed to drive onto Lake Lansing in the winter months.
